Folklore Museum - Korgialeneios Library

Korgialeneios Library was founded in 1924 according to Marinos Korgialenios weel.
It was destroyed by the 1953 earthquakes and was reconstructed later in two phases. It includes collections of manuscripts, old magazines, books and newspapers that sum up to 62.000 volumes.
The Historic and Folklore Museum that is right next to Korgialeneios Library, includes exhibits from the Venetian occupation till the 1953 earthquakes that completely destroyed the tokens of civilization developed in the island till then.

Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum of Kefalonia and Ithaka is in Davgata just 5 kilometres from Argostoli. It was founded in 1996 by the Kefalonian Corporation for the Protection of the Environment and it includes an environmental education centre, a lab, and an exhibition space that presents species from the flora and fauna of Kefalonia. It is aimed to promote the natural wealth of the two islands and also to raise awareness concerning the protection of the environment, and in that context relevant publications have been implemented which you can buy at the museum’s facilities.

Archaelogical Museum

It is located in Argostoli and was founded in 1957 in an effort to replace the old museum that was destroyed by the earthquakes in 1953. It includes exhibits from the Palaeolithic Era till the Post Roman period that are displayed in three different rooms. In the first room one can find exhibits from the Paleaolithic and the Neolithic Era, in the second findings from the Mycenaean Era mainly from graves discovered on the island, and in the third room findings from Ancient Tetrapolis and from the Roman Cemetery in Fiscardo.

Focas- Cosmetatos Museum

The Focas-Cosmetatos Collections include furniture of the family dating from the beginning of the 20th century, lithographs by Joseph Cartwright (“Views in the Ionian Islands”), Edward Lear and Henry Cook, lithographs of traditional costumes of the Ionian Islands, portraits and paintings, as well as a collection of coins and banknotes circulating in the Ionian Islands during their long history.
