In the south part of Kefalonia, and right next to Argostoli area, you can find Livatho, the birth place of the great benefactors of Kefalonia, and the place where the Castle of Saint George, the previous capital of the island stands proudly. As in every part of the island, here you can find beautiful beaches such as Ai helis, Avithos, Agios Thomas, Trapezaki, Lourdas and many more, the scenic and full of peace Saint Andrew and Pessada monasteries, and Sissia monastery believed to have been established by Saint Francis of Assisi. The Mycenaean graves at Mazarakata are an archaeological site of great interest, while the green villages, built by people of the sea, that was the main profession of the inhabitants in the old times, give the area a special class and character.
