Agrilia Monastery
Southeastern of the gulf of Sami, on o hill with an amazing view to the enormous blue sea you can find Agrilia Monastery. As in every monastery of Kefalonia, here too peace and natural beauty are the main characteristics. The deep blue waters of Antisamos beach on one side, and the panoramic view of Sami bay on the other are surrounded by the green color of the hills.
The monastery was built on the 18th century by two shepherds and their maid at the point that in 1722 they found the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary. Those two shepherds, Iakovos and Simeon, became the first monks of the monastery while Cosmas of Aetolia is said to have made a stop there during his pass from the island. The miraculous icon of Virgin Mary found by the two shepherds has been embodied on a larger icon.
A feast is carried out at the monastery on August 15th, while Cosmas of Aetolia memory is celebrated on August 24th.
