Avithos beach
Avithos beach
Avithos beach is situated in southwest Kefalonia very close to the picturesque villages Kourkoumelata and Kalligata. You can get there by following a route through a roadway surrounded by green gardens and olive trees guided by a relevant sign post. Straw umbrellas and the golden sand are the main features of this beach. You also have a wonderful view to Dias islet, where in ancient times there was a temple dedicated to Zeus. Today there is an orthodox temple where a pilgrimage is done, every year on July 2nd, the day on which “Panagia Diotissa” is celebrated. Apart from a life-guard there is a shower, toilettes and a canteen, while in the area you can find many restaurants. Due to its cleanness and organization, it has been given a “Blue Flag” award.
