Assos
Assos
Undoubtedly one of the most scenic attractions of Kefalonia that has preserved its charm and character through the years. This strangely shaped peninsula emerges in front of you on the way from Argostoli to Fiscardo. Driving down the hill for about a quarter a little heaven on earth awaits you. A high hill on which the Assos fortress stands proudly, is united with the island by a thin strand of earth on which scenic little houses are built.
If you have enough time, it is worth walking up the hill to the fortress, and do not forget to take a camera with you so that you can capture the incomparable view. When you go back to the village you can enjoy walking in the small narrow streets and relax at one of the many taverns or cafeterias. If you want to swim on the other hand, the little beaches with the pebbles and the sapphire water are right there waiting for you.
At the village square there is a benedictive monument for the help provided by the city of Paris for the reconstruction of the village after the earthquake in 1953.
The sublime beauty of the landscape justifies the admiration that Assos causes to locals and visitors, and the leading part that it has in the promotion of the island.
