Napier Garden
Napier Garden
At the centre of Argostoli above the Central Square you can find Napier Garden. This piece of land was bought by the English commander Charles James Napier and was adapted in a playground for his two children. Before the German occupation there used to be a statue of the commander that was destroyed by the German conquerors and was replaced later on. When the English left the island in 1864, this place was still Napier’s property until 1905 when Municipality of Argostoli resumed it. Today this garden is an oasis of tranquility and green in Argostoli and often concerts and other events are organized there. A walk among the high trees and a stop at one of the benches is the best way to relax amidst the bustle of the city.
