Koutavos Lake
Koutavos Lake
Koutavos Lake is sited in the Gulf of Argostoli and measures 1300 acres. Its name comes from the ancient Greek word “kotavos” which means basin. It is a very important habitat in which you can find many species like swans, wild ducks, seagulls and many more, but also many fish species which makes the waterway that separates it from the gulf of Argostoli a venue for those who like fishing. It is very swallow and this is why it used to be a very dangerous fen in the old times which threatened the inhabitants’ health, and that was the reason that imposed the construction of the waterway.
Today the area sited around the lake has been specially adapted and is now suitable for walks amongst the rich vegetation that surrounds it and the proud swans that sometimes walk on the land and sometimes swim carelessly close to it.
