Alkioni Hotel is situated in a beautiful seaside village in Katelios just a quarter of an hour’s drive from Poros, one of the main harbours on the island.
Alcyone in Greek mythology was wife of Ceyx and daughter of Aeolus. The couple's love was a model for the others... One day Ceyx set off to the oracle of Apollo in Klafo Ionia. During his travel adventure he drowned in the sea.
Then the gods in the form of dreams informed his unfortunate wife, Alcyone. Upon looking for her true love she came across his corpse and she subsequently died of a broken heart. Because her love was so strong, Zeus pitied them and turned them into birds of the sea, the alkiones and ordered Poseidon to calm the waters for a few days with sunshine so as to allow them to hatch their eggs. This is why every year in January we have warm days, named Alkionides Days.
