Lixouri

Lixouri

Lixouri, the second biggest city in Kefalonia, is the locals’ “little Paris". Many efforts where done by them so that Lixouri would become the capital of the island, which they did not accomplish and that was the reason for a legendary conflict between the inhabitants of the two cities. Remnant of this conflict is the statue of the great satiric poet Andreas Laskaratos which is found at the waterfront of Lixouri and has its back turned to Argotoli.
Birthplace of great artists, scientists and priests, Lixouri still exudes the class that has always been a characteristic of Kefalonia. A walk around the city will convince you of that. A very characteristic example is Ιakovatios Library, accommodated at an old mansion that has survived the 1953 earhtquakes.
At the central square you can enjoy the famous traditional sweets at the old pastry shop, as well as many local tastes at the restaurants along the waterfront, while the many touristic resorts will give you the chance to plan your stay there.
