Katavothres

Two kilometers from Argostoli you can find Katavothres, a rare and strange geological phenomenon that characterizes the uniqueness of Kefalonia. The sea water going through the watermill goes in the lumens found right next to the watermill and from there follows a 15 kilometers itinerary and ends up on the other side of the island in Melissani Lake. The mystery has been solved by Austrian researchers in 1963, by shedding a colored substance in the lumen. This substance was traced 14 days later in Melissani Lake.
Today at this point you can still find the watermill and a cafeteria where you can enjoy your coffee and the wonderful sea view as well as Saint Theodori Lighthouse.
